A downed pole fence leads you into this photograph of an old barn in the Palouse area of southeast Washington state on the border of Idaho. It's just one of the scores of barns in the area that draw photographers from all over the world. The barns however are not the most popular draw --it's the rolling hills of browns and greens like nowhere else in the world that's the major draw. The barns may be secondary...but in some ways, they are just as unique, each in its own way. Heavy clouds started to envelop the area, adding drama to the shot...and contrast to the sweeping green field of grass leading to the grayish barn and shed down at the base of the hill. The barns of the Palouse come in all shapes, colors, and conditions --many of them in a state of disrepair. This farm is still active and the barn is in relatively good shape.
