My rendition of Mesa Arch, the most photographed spot in all of Canyonlands National Park in Utah. Even the rock formations in the background are well known...the "Washerwoman", to the right of her, "Monster Tower" and framing her in back, "Airport Tower". Before 2010 relatively few people were aware of the beauty of this particular area, but then Microsoft made it a default background for its computer program, starting a stampede of photographers, tourists and others coming to the site. There is so much to like about this particular view of Mesa Arch. Of course the feature all photographers most want to capture is the beautiful fiery red at the bottom of the top portion of the arch...created as the sun starts to rise in the east. The texture of the gray sandstone rock at the base frames the view through the key hole and is highlighted by the sun just at the rim. Beautiful shot. Great use of framing, and it looks kind of like the sun beams are just "pouring" over the cliff in the distance.

I was there many years ago. It's a spectacular foto. F/L
David Choate replied:
Thanks, Heiko. When you're there at sunrise, it's difficult not getting a great shot -- but timing is everything and it's probably a lot more popular today than it was when you visited. You're elbow to elbow with other photogs.
Maya Bukhina

David Choate replied:
Thank you Maya. It's an often photographed site, but when it's your own, it's kinda special.
