Fireworks on the 4th of July --a long-time tradition. But who says they have to be in color? This image was shot in color, but I actually think it looks better in black and white -- much more dramatic! And if it wasn't for an FAA-sponsored "Black and White Challenge", it probably would have remained forever a color image. The image fits the description of "abstract art" and almost looks like a space capsule, atop a rocket trail of long white streamers, heading toward some faraway planet. Aside from changing this image from color to black and white, I also changed its orientation by 180 degrees to make it look like it was ascending into the darkness instead of coming down.

Cool!

David, genius idea to turn it on its head!

I wish we could edit to add to existing comments... but I wanted to add that it was the work of OTHER artists in the challenge that inspired me to try watercolor paint. I love seeing work of other artists in these challenges. So inspiring!

This is great David! And aren't these challenges awesome? For 9 years I painted using nothing but acrylics and then participated in my first Challenge here (the 100 day one!). Because of that challenge I discovered watercolor paint and I love them so much! NEVER would have tried them but for that challenge.

So creative! Great one!

Who would have thought to turn it 180 degrees? Very well done David!
Debra Kewley
This is terrific and very creative! Nice job!

I think you made great choices on the B&W and orientation, Dave!. If it were in color, it would be just another nice fireworks shot. The B&W snd the stronger energy of the upward velocity make it so much more than that!
Renata Natale
Fabulous capture and perfect in B&W

Love the motion captured in this image David. Nicely done!
