Description
The magnificent centuries-old Borromeo Palace on Isola Bella is framed here by a hedge on the adjoining island of Pescatore in northern Italy's Lake Maggiore. Built in the mid 17th century, the palace and its beautiful gardens was a labor of love by Count Borromeo for his wife Isabella. Descendants of the family still own the island and escape to the Palace from their villas in Milan during the summer months. They live on the upper floors, but allow visitors to tour the lower floors and grottos below the ground. Ferry boats bring tourists by the thousands to the island and it's larger "sister" island of Isola Madre. The hedge I used as a frame for this photograph is on the property of the Ristorante Urbano, a wonderful place to eat with excellent food and great views.
