Description
The center piece of the Gardens of Isola Bella (Beautiful Island) is known simply as The Theater. At the very top of the structure is a statue of a Unicorn, the heraldic emblem of the Borromeo Family which has owned the island since the mid 17th century. Towering 121 feet in the air...the structure is filled with statues, balustrades, obelisks, and towers. Most of the statues were made by the Milanese sculptor Carlo Simonetta during the years 1667 through 1677. Many of the statues take their place within the many little alcoves that can be found on each terrace. The grounds are kept immaculate and the bushes trimmed to perfection. The views from the terraces are magnificent and you can see for miles.
