Description
The Navajo Indian Guide had just tossed into the air a handful of sand he had taken from the floor of Lower Antelope Canyon, Arizona. As it filtered back down, it was illuminated by sunlight streaming through a slot in the canyon ceiling wall thus producing this remarkable scene just as I pressed the shutter. I don't know if I've ever captured a more dramatic or more beautiful picture. For me, it was certainly a "once in a lifetime" shot. I titled it "Powdered Sugar and Icing on the cake" because it reminded me of my mother dusting a newly baked cake with a handful of powdered sugar. My mother's cake never looked quite like this one-- which probably more resembles a loaf of bread or a hat with an orange band. The white hot light of the sun beaming down on the brown rock makes it look like icing on a cake...at least to my imagination.
