Description
A block of blue ice floating in Glacier Bay, Alaska -- providing the only color to this image taken on a dark and overcast day. According to the National Park Service, "Blue is the color of pure glacier ice, compact with few air bubbles, since the air is squeezed out from the weight of the ice. Pure ice has the properties of minerals. Like sapphires, glacial ice reflects the blue colors of the light spectrum, so beautiful blue color reaches our eyes. Glacial ice mostly looks white, since it is typically jagged and worn from exposure.'
This image was my Day 333 submission to the year-long Fine Art America Journal/Diary Challenge that required participants to upload a new image to the Challenge every day of the Year 2022. (11/29/22).
